Braille Course

Letters U–Z

The final letters — and W, the famous exception.

Learn

U, V, X, Y, and Z add dots 3 and 6 to the first shapes. W is the odd one out: French had no W when Louis Braille designed the code, so it was added separately.

Finish the alphabet by writing each of these.

  • Udots 1 3 6
  • Vdots 1 2 3 6
  • Xdots 1 3 4 6
  • Ydots 1 3 4 5 6
  • Zdots 1 3 5 6
  • Wdots 2 4 5 6The exception — added later.

Write It Yourself

Braille is read by touch and written dot by dot. Recreate each character below in the writer — the best way to make it stick.
